In a world where we have so many distractions from our phones and social media to

our own minds and getting lost in them. It's probably harder than ever to actually be present in our own lives, seizing all the memorable moments that make it so great. Let's dive in and talk about it!
What does it mean to be present?
To be present is to be FULLY aware and showing up in your life rather than just allowing it to pass you by. It's accepting and appreciating what's going on in your reality and living it in its totality. So many of us don’t even realize those times we will never get back as they are happening. Being present and practicing mindfulness keeps us genuinely connected.
Distractions, distractions, distractions!
One of the main distractions in modern life is technology and social media! Don’t get me wrong these things are amazing and do serve a great amount of good, but even too much of a good thing can be over the top. It’s so easy to get lost in your phone with all the stimulation. We can see evidence of this overuse when we’re hanging out with friends and family. I’ve caught myself so many times faded in the background while joy and laughter filled the people I was supposed to be present with. When we take the time to acknowledge those moments of disconnect, we allow ourselves space to get back into our life and enjoy what is apart of our reality as opposed to indulging in the life of others.
On this journey to healing which is honestly never ending, one of the biggest constructs is that everything comes back to self. With that being said we can’t put the blame all on tech and social media. Something even harder to put down and let rest is our own minds! We get so wrapped up in our heads having thoughts of what happened at work, how many things we have on our to do list, or just the day to day muck racing through our crowns. It’s as if over the years we have just been running on autopilot. Our thoughts keeping us on a never ending loop not even allowing time to actually sulk in and really be grateful for the moments we share with those we love and care for as well as ourselves.
Conquering mindfulness
There is so many different routes to take on this journey to mindfulness and healing as a whole. Starting out strong is the best remedy in my opinion. Do you know how powerful our minds are especially in the morning? Studies have proven when we first awake in the am, our minds are at their sharpest, this is the perfect time to program your mind and set intentions for the day. Before you grab your phone or step foot out of bed, try setting the intention that you’re going to show up for yourself all day as much as you can.
Another great tip for conquering mindfulness is breathe work! Breathing in from your nose and out through your mouth allows you to come back to yourself almost like a reset button.
Throughout the day, check in with yourself! When you’re cooking or eating be all in it, really take time to enjoy it. When you’re with your loved ones really be with them, enjoy their presence, their love, their conversation.
By no means am I telling you that you should throw your phone away or always stop your mind from wandering. Everything serves a purpose, we may never be able to stop our mind from wandering completely and that’s not the goal. The goal is to remain balanced, whole, and healing. Be the captain of your ship and take charge in your living your life intentionally.
Overall the present is THE GIFT.
