Overcoming Self-Limiting Thoughts

What are self-limiting thoughts?


Self-limiting thoughts are those eerie, doubtful, low vibrational thoughts. They are the ones that come unwelcomed and unexpected trying to convince you that all the dreams and goals you have are out of reach or "unattainable" for you. They tend to come up even more when you are on your journey to the life you have always truly wanted.


The truth is our thoughts have power over our reality, it's part of the reason why many can be in similar situations but grow into completely different outcomes. Realizing the things, we go through have an actual name allows room to change for the betterment of ourselves and even those around us. We have ALL the power needed to change our thoughts, our perspective, and our lives.


Where do self-limiting thoughts come from?


Just like any other thought form, self-limiting thoughts come from us, the part of us that's not quite healed or aware yet. It's important to know that having these thoughts are okay and it's not something we're going through alone. We have all been in a world that pushes the narrative you have to do things a certain way in a certain way to be successful and have a happy life. The thing is not all of us have the same definition of success and happiness, some of us are happy with the simple things in life and some of us really dream big! Both are perfect and necessary but by no means should we limit ourselves. The programming and instilled beliefs we have been subdued to since we were children takes time to sort and clean out.


Tips to overcome self-limiting thoughts


One of the first things I would do when getting intrusive self-limiting thoughts was trying to stop them or force them away, that's no longer something I do, nor do I recommend, though it seems logical.


Let it flow! Allow the thought to flow, observe it, and KNOW that those thoughts no longer serve the person you are or the person you are becoming. What helped me with this was realizing that those thoughts were fear based, our minds ultimately go off repetition, when you have gone so long believing something and you try to switch it up even for the better, your minds first instinct is to try to protect you, in this case from the "unknown".


Transmute it! Yank that thought down and replace it with positive affirmations and not just one. Just like that thought bombarded your greatness bombard it and yourself with love and positivity.


Speak your new truth! The difference between us and our thoughts is we can speak, and they can't. Our voices and our words have immense power. I love calling myself and my thoughts out, getting in their face and speaking out loud who we as one are now going to be. At the end of the day, it is all you and though we get torn between who we used to be and who we are becoming the end goal is healing all our pieces and becoming whole again.
